Sheila .....
"It is my mission and my goal to each time connect those who I serve with the design, the letters and the writing that meets their needs, connects with their souls, and makes them and me pause with the satisfaction of a job well done. This makes me very happy."
I have become of lifelong student of lettering, studying with internationally acclaimed scribes in every discipline of lettering. From pen to brush to sticks, from tedious and exacting copperplate to freewheeling brush marks that are just that, brush marks ... it's all beautiful to me.
Early studies and encouragement in the arts led to intensive study of painting and illustration and therein lies my life's work.
Letterpress printing with Frank Brannon of the Penland School of Crafts took me back to the days when my own grandfather was printer of the daily paper and back then, letterpress was the method of printing. I still remember the smell of the inks and solvents.... ummmm. Book binding studies have led me lately to commissions for handmade books, both the printing of and hand-binding. I feel indeed fortunate to work at what I love. Rumi said, "Let the beauty you love be what you do." I take that to my heart.
My work involves:
Logos, titles, taglines and illustration for agencies and the public
Custom lettering design of invitations and print related materials for weddings and events, both through private commission and commercial work
Fine document design (diplomas, resolutions and awards) for universities, corporations and government
In addition to works hung in numerous homes, churches, businesses and universities, work has been published in American Bride Magazine, The Bulletin, Paper and Ink, and most recently Talk Art magazine. It is posted, too on the immensely popular wedding web sites Brides.com and weddingwire.com.
