Sometimes you wake up in the morning and you're just so full of gratitude for your very ordinary life that it makes you want to just sing thanks for everything!
I've been working lately on some prints for my online store and I'm thinking this is what I'll do with this little piece. It's a great thing to read on days when you feel fabulous, you're smiling and the world is going just right ..... on the other hand, it's a great thing to be reminded of when things are not so rosy and life has been a little bit or a whole lot hard.
I hope your days are all rosy and if they're not, I hope you'll remember this .....

<![CDATA[Mexican Parable]]>Sat, 10 Oct 2015 19:22:02 GMThttp://calligraphicsonline.com/blog/mexican-parablePicture
The parable is charming, but long. The client wants it small and has a budget. The solution was to artfully typeset the parable, add a significant illustration and give them a really charming frameable piece that fits juuuust right:)

As long as I have to warm up at the beginning of the day, and I like to wind down at the end with a little self chosen practice, I thought I'd help out local charities by donating these little works to fundraisers. Keeps me inspired, my studio clean, and gives me a great way to give back.

Sometimes I work on very happy things, celebratory things ..... sometimes very poignant things .... and sometimes tragic things.
Her favorite flower is Lily of the Valley, but she doesn't really remember that; the ravages of Alzheimer's have taken that and lot else away.
Her loving husband of 43 yrs wants to honor her and protect her, that others, too, might read this and understand and be careful with her, like he is .... it's hard and there's a long road ahead.
God forgive me when I whine.....

<![CDATA[June 08th, 2014]]>Sun, 08 Jun 2014 15:13:54 GMThttp://calligraphicsonline.com/blog/june-08th-2014Wisteria wedding Picture
Oh so Charleston, St Andrews and the Francis Marion Hotel are the sites for the ceremony and reception.... from the flowers to the thank you's, this wisteria themed wedding will be gorgeous with rich purples, greens and whites!

As the bride and groom are both musicians, I knew they'd go for the romance:) so behind the wisteria illustration of the table cards, I dropped in, very lightly, the sheet music for a hymn that was to be a central part of the ceremony. Backed with hand marbled fine paper in lavender and rich purple it's the perfect touch to mark the tables in these elegant frames selected by the bride's mother. Coordinated place cards were designed to continue the theme..... more on the groom's gift later:) He sings to her .... oh my...

The client calls and requests a rendering of the Apache Blessing to be folded to fit inside of a beautiful Limoge box as a gift to her niece. How beautiful the idea! What she didn't say was the the box is barely over 1" x 1" .... YIKES! Oh yes, and she needs it in two weeks AND she has a budget, as she's bought her already so many other things, but THIS one is special.....

The solution was to typeset all but the first initial, printed it on mulberry paper embedded with tiny leaves (3.25" x 3.25"), added the "n" by hand, made a beautiful little folder with ribbon closing; slipped all that inside that delicate little box. The mulberry paper is tough enough to withstand years of folding and unfolding, the folder protects it and keeps it together. The box makes a safe place, and wrapped with love it's the ideal wedding gift for that special niece.

<![CDATA[Child of My Child]]>Tue, 25 Mar 2014 22:02:17 GMThttp://calligraphicsonline.com/blog/child-of-my-childPicture

This beautiful poem was written for a granddaughter 27 years ago. The years flew by; Grandmother never got around to having the piece put down on proper paper until, yes.... the wedding day! She intended it, she's just a little late, says she:)
When I read the lovely, heart-filled words, it sounded to me like a page from a book, a child's book, or a nursery rhyme book that should have a beautiful whimsical, simple illustration to ride along with it....one with mountains, far away, like your granddaughter's wedding day seems when she's just an infant:) And there's a tree.... the tree of life, with leaves being blown off by the breeze and away, like years that blow by one after another, nearly without notice until one big day.... when she announces that she wants to marry. Where did time go?
This will be such a special gift.... somehow the timing seems perfect.

<![CDATA[Just a little romantic note ....]]>Mon, 26 Aug 2013 23:55:19 GMThttp://calligraphicsonline.com/blog/just-a-little-romantic-notePicture
OK, so sometimes there's no time and maybe no budget for an entirely hand rendered piece of poetry ..... does that mean you just go buy a card at the grocery store and let that do? Nooooo, she deserves more, especially for one of those BIG ones:)
The card is hand torn from a beautiful Strathmore heavyweight paper and is type set, but a special hand rendered character at the top made it so much more special. Throw in a little watercolor vine plus a beautiful hand painted rose for the front ..... of course it was raised and hand stitched .... and made to fit an envelope already on hand, matching of course.
To add another special touch he presented her with a red rose and a lot of love for all those years ..... and that special restaurant that they loved so much, yes. This poem has been a repeated gift throughout their married life ..... GOOD GRIEF, what a romantic! Quick turn around and happy couple:)

Who wouldn't want to preserve and cherish a birthday text from their son .... yes text:)
I chose this copperplate style because it's easily read; Mom's favorite flowers are daisies and roses .... the makings of a perfect piece.
Now she can enjoy it for years to come, just a glance away. It's such a sweet remembrance from a son who sometimes finds feelings difficult to express. I think he did a pretty swell job.
